About

Patricia Dalen, MFA, MSEd, CCEP, LMHC

I work with people who look “together” from the outside but feel tangled, anxious, or ashamed on the inside. You might be the reliable one, the creative one, the caretaker or overachiever - someone others lean on - yet you’re hard on yourself, exhausted, or stuck in relationship and behavior patterns you can’t think your way out of.

I’m a licensed psychotherapist and Core Energetics practitioner. My work brings together talk therapy, somatic/energy work, and honest relational contact. We won’t just analyze what’s happening in your life - we’ll also pay close attention to how it lives in your body: in your breath, posture, voice, and the impulses to shut down, please, perform, or fight.

My training is grounded in psychodynamic, attachment, and relational theory, and I also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In practice, that means we’ll look at how your past shapes the present, notice the stories your mind is running, and then experiment - gently but actively - with new ways of feeling, moving, and relating.

A lot of my clients struggle with:

  • anxiety, stress, and chronic self-criticism (often fueled by shame)
  • depression or feeling “flat” and disconnected from aliveness
  • trauma and complex family histories
  • people-pleasing, over-responsibility, and burnout
  • intimacy, sexuality, and relationship dynamics (including non-traditional and polyamorous relationships)

Before I became a therapist, I spent over twenty years as a professional actor, including work on Broadway and in major regional theatres. That world taught me a lot about performance, visibility, and the pressure to hold it together while you’re falling apart inside. It also showed me how powerful the body, voice, and nervous system are as gateways to change - lessons I now bring into my work with clients, both creative professionals and non-artists.

I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Hunter College and an MFA in performance from the National Theatre Conservatory. I’ve worked in community mental health and addiction treatment, and I currently maintain a private practice and serve as a senior psychotherapist at the Soho Center for Mental Health Counseling in Manhattan.

I’m trained in Core Energetics, Psychodrama, and group work, and I’m committed to ongoing learning and professional community in body psychotherapy, contextual behavioral science, and group psychotherapy.

Most importantly, I see therapy as a collaborative, alive relationship. I will bring warmth, honesty, and curiosity, and I’ll invite you to bring your full self, including the parts you’re not proud of. Together we’ll work toward more freedom, groundedness, and real connection both with yourself and with the people who matter to you.

If this resonates, you’re welcome to reach out for a brief consultation to see if we’re a good fit.
