Feelings are messengers that can guide us into a fuller, more vibrant life. They help us know what’s best for us, create meaning in our lives, and motivate us to take action toward positive change. If we allow space for them, listen to their wisdom, movement toward the life we long to lead becomes possible. My approach is to co-create a compassionate container where clients can safely explore unconscious feelings, long-standing beliefs and untapped wisdom. Through the use of Core Energetics, a body-oriented modality founded by Dr. John Pierrakos, clients are invited to experience their capacity for aliveness through physically moving blocked energy and allowing insight and consciousness to unfold.
Psychodrama is a rehearsal for life. Created by J. L. Moreno nearly 100 years ago, this psychotherapeutic method helps clients practice new and more productive roles and behaviors in a supportive environment. It is particularly useful in areas of trauma and addiction. Trauma often leaves a person stuck in a freeze response. Action methods, such as Psychodrama, give the client an opportunity to act out personal scenarios from their life, working through frozen areas of the past and present. Clients are invited to try on new ways of being, voice formerly silenced words, and take action where once they were incapacitated. They come away feeling empowered, with a more expanded concept of self, and a sense of completion.
Jon Kabat-Zinn, Professor of Medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, defines mindfulness as: “…paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.” By applying mindfulness in our sessions, you will begin to notice with more clarity your thoughts, sensations, and feelings. Focused breathing is a helpful tool we utilize to make contact mindfully with the immediate moment, as it is. Breathwork also helps to loosen the blocks to our aliveness. We may energize the breath, increasing your vitality, or calm it by slowing the rhythm of inhalation and exhalation, welcoming ease and relaxation into the body. In a safe and supportive environment, we will experiment with breath and mindfulness, deepening your relationship to self and others.
